What a day!!!!
In all the years I have cycled I have never encountered sustained head / side winds like today….
It went on for our first 45 km – took us 5 hours rests…( with a 2km respite due to sand dunes)
It then continued more or less for the final 20km!!!!!
Wind speeds of 20 knots (35 km/hour) with gusts…
At times it even pushed my bike sideways!
Despite this we boxed on and at 4,15 while sitting in a bus shelter for some respite we found a flat in Alkmaar…..2 hours later we arrived. Sooooo niiccee
Saw a couple really nice windmills….
Run into Alkmaar was super nice with amazing cycle lanes
Alkmaar seems very nice and going around the old town tomorrow for a look
Had a belated birthday dinner at a Dutch rest….very nice
